Meet the ALMA community

Gito Nhanhombe, President

Gito handles daily activities and is manager, spokesman, activist & artist at the same time. A true multitasker. Gito started to work for ALMA in 2009 when he came to Tofo. First he worked as a volunteer and did beach clean ups and Handcraft. Working for ALMA brought him a new perspective of the environment. In 2012 he became the coordinator and representative of ALMA and in 2017 he became the President of the association.

Filimão, Handcraft

Filimão has made handcraft at ALMA since 2016. He is a housekeeper in Tofo and works for ALMA when he has free time. He operates the machines in ALMAs new recycling center.

Cremildo, Bin Man

Cremildo organizes the bargain and sale of aluminum and bronze. He has worked at ALMA since 2015 and is one of the bin men. He also does handcrafts, mostly the Newspaper Mats. While his family lives in Morrumbene, Cremildo stays in Tofo alone to sustain them with the income of ALMA.

Amelia Maezinha, Handcrafts

Has worked with ALMA since 2009. Amelia assists with beach and Village Clean-ups, and works with separation of trash and creating handcrafts with the recyclable rubbish.

Augusto, Founding member

Augusto is the oldest member from ALMA. He also is a founding member of ALMA and has participated in the association's activities since 2008. He works in the rubbish collection and in recycling activities. He also designs certain crafts and became one of the ALMA artists.

Vilanculo, Bin Man

Vilankulo works in the rubbish collection and in recycling activities. He has worked with ALMA since 2012 and is one of the strongest ALMA workers… yeahhh

Catarina, Handcrafts

Catarina is a municipality worker who has worked with ALMA since 2009. Before this position she was a housewife and worked in the fields. In addition to her work she started to separate recyclable waste at the dumpsite to get an extra pay. In 2019 she started to do Handcrafts to support her children with the earnings.

Ezequiel, Founding member

Ezequiel used to search for feed for his pigs at the dumpsite in Inhambane back in 2007. Elisabete came to him because she was looking for people to launch a new project, ALMA. He then told many other people about this idea and together they could make ALMA a reality. Today Ezequiel does beach clean-ups, operates within the rubbish collection,  separates aluminum cans and produces crafts.

Claudinha, Handcrafts

Claudinha is a founding member and has worked with ALMA since 2008. She assists with beach and Village Clean-ups, and works creating handcrafts out of recyclable resources.

Luis, Bin Man

Luis is a founding member of ALMA and has participated in the association's activities since 2008. He also is one of the main spokespeople of the association and sometimes represents the association with local authorities and others. He works in the rubbish collection and in recycling activities. He also designs certain crafts and became one of the ALMA artists.

Teles, Bin Man

Teles has worked with ALMA since 2019 in the rubbish collection and in recycling activities.

Meet the ALMA supporting members

Elisabete, Founding Member

Elisabete is a founding member of ALMA and was one of the members that idealized the association's creation in 2008. She was ALMA's President for the first 5 years. With her legal background, she supports the association with paperwork and legalities. She promoted the start of the ALMA craft project and currently she assists with the coordination of this project.

Marcus, Founding Member

Marcus is a founding member of ALMA and was one of the members that idealized the association's creation in 2008. He supports ALMA on the implementation of projects and infrastructure, assisting to find donors & partner organizations to support the association in the recycling and craft projects.
